The coursework is inspired by the Orton-Gillingham approach to instruction, teaching you how to become an effective dyslexia therapist who helps students navigate cognitive barriers to processing language by creating new neural pathways for building reading competencies. Program Completion Requirements
While seeking the master’s in dyslexia therapy online, the educator candidate shall:
- Maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 or better in all courses in the approved program as verified on an official transcript with no grade below ‘C.’
Requirements for Alabama Class A Certification
- Meet all program requirements.
- Have an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution documenting an earned master’s degree.
Admissions
The online master’s in dyslexia therapy program requires a 2.5 GPA for undergraduate coursework. To be admitted to the online master’s degree in dyslexia therapy program, the prospective educator candidate must meet all requirements for admission to the School of Graduate Studies, including:
- Fingerprints/verification of background clearance.
- Hold a valid bachelor’s level Professional Educator Certificate.
- Two years of satisfactory educational experience.
- Have Supplement EXP form completed by your School System.
Educational experience for the online master’s in dyslexia therapy program is defined as teaching experience and instructional support experience, including full-time educational work in:
- Any state or local public school, regionally accredited postsecondary school, educational agency, or educational association.
- An accredited, state-registered, state-approved, and/or church-related nonpublic school.
- Rehabilitation facilities for P-12 students.
Note that education experience as an intern, graduate assistant, student teacher, or in positions such as substitute teacher, aide or clerical worker shall not be considered.
Applicants are admitted once annually, with new cohorts starting the Summer 1 term.

Tuition
Tuition for the online master’s in dyslexia therapy program is $429 per credit hour. There is a $60 technology fee each semester, and the online program includes a $50 comprehensive exam fee and course fees ranging from $55 to $300.
