Degree Overview

Pursue a teaching career or change your teaching area with the online alternative teaching certification in mathematics. This program provides you with master’s-level teaching certification in Alabama and a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or Master of Education (MEd) degree. You must have at least a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 GPA from a regionally accredited institution, or a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum 3.00 GPA.

The continuum of field experiences required in UWA’s programs includes experiences in P-12 settings and culminates in an internship during the final semester. Students must also complete at least four seminars, as well as any necessary training sessions, which are available fully online with no on-campus time required.

Become an effective educator by learning at one of Alabama’s oldest and most prestigious universities. In a flexible online environment, develop the knowledge and skills you need to impact students.

Through a collaboration, UWA offers Project INSPIRE, a Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program funded  by the National Science Foundation to help fill a critical need for  K-12 teachers in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. You can find more information on this scholarship program here.
