Use Your Benefits
Veterans and active-duty, guard and reserve service members, as well as their spouses and dependents, can use a variety of government benefits and our UWA Military Connect Scholarship to fund their education.
GI Bill® Programs
The Post-9/11 GI Bill®, Forever GI Bill®, Montgomery GI Bill®, Veteran Educational Assistance Program (VEAP) and more.
DoD Tuition Assistance (DoD TA)
Active military students may be eligible to use DoD TA to cover tuition expenses up to $250 per credit hour if they’re eligible. Visit your service branch for more information:

Credit for Your Military Training
UWA awards credit for military training, professional military education, and credit by examination (CLEP and DSST). Service members could earn up to 30 hours toward the BS in Technology or the BS in Public Safety.

Alabama National Guard Education Assistance Program(ANGEAP)
ANGEAP provides $5,080 for up to 120 academic hours per semester for tuition and fees that are not covered by VA education benefits. To qualify for the program, you must be an Alabama National Guard service member who is enrolled in an Alabama state-supported school.
UWA Military Connect Scholarship
UWA extends our own scholarship, Military Connect, to active military students, Guard and reserve service members, veterans, spouses and dependents. When you combine the lowered tuition rates from the scholarship and layer in your military benefits, your out-of-pocket expense could be more than affordable. Using the scholarship, your cost per credit hour is:
- Undergraduate Degrees: $275 ($250 for active military)
- Graduate Degrees: $329
- Doctoral Degrees: $530
Get Connected to Support Services
Our enrollment process is a personalized experience where we help connect you to your benefits, apply for transfer credits and get credit for your military experience. You’ll be continually advised throughout your program and supported by professionals who understand the unique needs of military students. Additionally, you’ll have the same support services and options as you would on campus.
- Career Services. Learn about new job openings and prepare to impress employers through mock interview sessions, resume-writing and portfolio-building exercises.
- Networking. Connect with potential employers and professionals to learn more about prospective internships, job shadowing opportunities and employment.
- Financial Aid. If you still need help with tuition after using your military benefits and our Military Connect Scholarship, we’ll help connect you to those options.
